Chairman Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board
reviews all aspects of ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra

Srinagar (Kashmir), July 12 –Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Mr. N. N. Vohra, reviewed all aspects of the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra in a meeting here today. So far 1, 40,996 pilgrims of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra had darshan of Shiv Lingam at Holy Cave of Shri Amarnath Ji.

The Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), took stock of the various arrangements made for the Yatris at the Base Camps, Camp locations enroute and at the Holy Cave. He also reviewed the security and other arrangements made to facilitate a smooth pilgrimage. He reiterated his directions to all concerned officers to provide all facilities and all required assistance to the Yatris.

The Chief Executive Officer of the SASB, Mr. R. K. Goyal disclosed that, at the instance of the Governor, the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering, Pahalgam, has deputed an eight-member team of its mountaineering trained personnel to assist the movement of the Yatris in the snow-bound and slippery stretch of the track between Sangam Top and Holy Cave. The Chariman gave these instructions after reports of several accidents were reported on this difficult stretch, which becomes extremely slippery when the snows start melting.

A 20 member J&K Police personnel comprising two Mobile Rescue Teams already deployed to assist the Yatris between Sheshnag and Poshpathri, had been doing a commendable job and have received appreciation from the visiting pilgrims. The movement of the Yatris is being monitored several times a day and appropriate directions are issued to the Camp Directors in regard to providing the requisite facilities to the pilgrims.

The CEO once again appealed to the Yatris to strictly adhere to the detailed advisory of Do’s and Don’ts which is printed on the reverse of the Yatra Permit and also separately issued to all pilgrims. He reiterated that as the Yatra involves climbing up to an altitude of 14,500 feet the Yatris must have themselves medically examined for the journey. He asserted that every Yatri is required to self certify his medical fitness to undertake the Yatra while registering for issue of a Yatra Permit. Disregard of the Do’s and Don’ts results in altogether avoidable casualties.

The Minister inspected the Medical Camps set up by the Health Department at different places and issued instructions to the doctors and para-medical staff to provide best medicare facilities to the pilgrims.
