Perkho Temple in Jammu being developed as major tourist attraction
Jammu , November 24 - In a bid to promote religious tourism in Jammu on large scale, the revered Peerkho temple on the bank of River Tawi is being developed as a major tourist attraction at a project cost of Rs. 3.50 crore. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of current fiscal.
The Minister for Tourism, Jammu & Kashmir today inspected the temple complex and took stock of the pace of development work.
The Minister inspected the ongoing work on Amphi Theater (open air theatre), construction of gate-way of the temple and upcoming Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) being developed at a cost of Rs. 90 lakhs. The Minister suggested some modifications in the design of Amphi theatre. He instructed the concerned engineers of Tourism Department to consult management of the temple while implementing the development plan. He directed for completing the TRC by February this year so that devotees and pilgrims do not face any inconvenience on the eve of ensuing Maha Shivratri.
It was informed that the development project for Peerkho temple also includes construction of shelter sheds cum viewing docks, bathing ghats alongside the Tawi River bank, recreation park and fencing of shishu Samadhi.
The Minister said that Jamu & Kashmir Government has conceived a comprehensive plan for exploiting the potential of pilgrim tourism optimally in all the three regions of the State.
