Road shows for Jammu & Kashmir Tourism promotion at Indore & Ahmadabad

Jammu, February 10- As a part of campaign to attract domestic tourist to Jammu & Kashmir state, the Minister for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora inaugurated road shows at Indore-Madhya Pradesh and Ahmadabad-Gujarat, organized by Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department in collaboration with Tour and Travel Operators of J&K.

During these events, a large number of domestic tour operators of the twin cities and local people participated and evinced keen interest in the places showcased in the road shows. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister described Kashmir as a distinctive tourist destination in the country. He said while Jammu is an important destination of pilgrim tourism, Ladakh is a favourite destination for trekkers, known for its un-spoilt beauty and moon land, besides spiritual attraction attached to the ancient monasteries.

Elaborating on tourist destinations of Kashmir valley, the Minister highlighted the importance of Gulmarg, a primer international destination having a wonderful Gandola ride. He said Pahalgam is famous for its trekking routes, base camp of holy shrine of Shri Amarnathji, while as Sonamarg destination is famous for its golden green meadows and Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir is renowned in the world for its Dal Lake, Royal Spring Golf Course which attracts large number of foreign and domestic tourists.

The Minister said that to further boost the inflow of domestic tourists, the government would organise a visit of tour operators of Indoor, Poona and Ahmadabad shortly so that they would themselves see the scintillating tourist places of the state and the situation which is often blown out of proportions even in the event of minor incidents.

Besides, Minister of State for Tourism and Culture, Commissioner Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Managing Director, JKTDC, Director Tourism, Kashmir, Director Tourism, Jammu and executive members of TAAK Kashmir were present on the occasion.

The Minister said that efforts put in by the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department, with the active participation of the Kashmir tour operators and others involved in the tourism trade will definitely help in boosting the domestic tourist inflow in the State in coming summer season. He emphasized the need for holding such events at Ahmadabad, Pune, Mumbai and other places of the country saying that these places offer a huge tourist market for the state. He said such measures will also give boost to handicrafts and handloom sectors of J&K.

The administrations of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, besides tour operators of these states evinced keen interest in the tourist destinations of the state.
